Senior Driver Retests

Refresher lessons and test preparation tailored for senior drivers

Senior Driver Re-test Preparation Lessons (All Levels)

In Victoria, there is currently no mandatory re-testing for senior drivers based solely on age. However, driver safety is a priority and there are ways to ensure older Victorians remain fit to drive. Certain circumstances such as health conditions will require a driver to take a licence retest. If this happens to you we can help! We offer lessons designed specifically to prepare you to take the re-test confidently.

Medical Conditions:

  • Drivers in Victoria are legally responsible for disclosing any medical conditions that could affect their driving ability to VicRoads. Your doctor can advise if a medical assessment is needed.

Driver Assessment:

  • If VicRoads has concerns about a driver's fitness, they may request a driver assessment by an occupational therapist. This assessment evaluates your ability to handle the physical and cognitive demands of driving.
  • Drivers are responsible for the cost of this assessment.

Self-Assessment:

  • VicRoads encourages older drivers to assess their own fitness to drive regularly. This includes considering any changes in vision, hearing, reaction time, or physical limitations that could impact driving safety.
